Opera and Grands Boulevards is the area where clubs, theatres and bars have been since the XIXth century. Charles Garnier’s Opera is located here at the end of the Avenue de l'Opera. The opera is a perfect example of neoclassicism with its ornamented facade and monumental stairs. Maria Callas and Rudolf Noureev are among the many artists who wrote its history as one of the world foremost scenic stages for opera and ballet alike. Further down the boulevard des Capucines, the Olympia concert hall was the a legendary venue for french and international stars. Don’t miss the Opera Garnier’s ceiling, painted by Chagall in 1964 and for the shopaholic the department stores like Galeries Lafayette and Printemps, which line boulevard Haussmann just behind.
