How About Ice Skating in Front of a Parisian Monument?

The ice skating rink in front of the Hôtel de Ville has just opened up, and guests staying at the Hôtel de la Tour Maubourg can enjoy it until March 3, 2013. Each year, this ice rink delights many Parisian visitors and inhabitants, and this year is no exception. Both children and adults are therefore invited to put on their ice skates and join the fun.

The square of the Hôtel de Ville is the location of many special installations and events throughout the year. During the winter, however, the space is dedicated to operation ‘Paris on Ice,’ which turns the square into an impressive open-air ice skating rink just in time for Christmas and right up until the following March.

The wintertime ice skating rink measures 1,365 meters squared, giving ice skating pros and amateurs alike plenty of room to master a few skating tricks or simply enjoy gliding around on a cool Parisian day. There is even a smaller rink, measuring 208 meters squared, for the little ones and beginners who do not feel comfortable on the large ice rink. As a result, adults and children of all ages can spend a little time on the ice in the 4th arrondissement.

Entry to the ice skating rink is free and visitors can bring their own ice skates, if they have them. Ice skates can also be rented for 5 euros for those who need to.

What’s more, there will be skating monitors and teachers on the ice to provide any helpful tips and demonstrations that skaters might need. They are particularly trained to respond to first time skaters and hockey players. They not only ensure the safety of everyone on the ice, these trained professionals also provide advice on techniques that will enable skaters to have even more fun.
